Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to death; don’t stand back and let them die. Don’t try to disclaim responsibility by saying you didn’t know about it.

Proverbs 24:11-12

Abortion in Canada

  • Abortion is legal throughout all 9 months of pregnancy, for any reason, up to the moment of birth.

  • All abortions are funded with taxpayer dollars through the provincial health care system (except New Brunswick). This, despite the fact that polls show a majority of Canadians, up to 68% in a 2009 poll, significantly disagree with their dollars being used to kill babies.

  • New Brunswick taxpayers fund hospital abortions, but not those done at for-profit, privately owned clinics.
  • The Canada Health Act does not require abortion costs to be insured. It states only that "medically necessary" procedures must be insured. Almost all abortions are not medically necessary. Provincial legislatures can pass a law recognizing this fact at any time.

Statistics:

  • At least 100,000 surgical abortions are committed annually in Canada, conservatively speaking.
  • Since its legalization in 1969, 4 million Canadians have died from elective abortions.

  • Today, abortion is used as a "back-up" birth control method in more than 96% of instances.
  • About half of the women with an unplanned pregnancy choose abortion. The other half keeps the child. Fewer than 1% offer the baby for adoption.
  • There is a desperate shortage of newborn babies available for adoption in Canada. Only a few hundred are placed each year.
  • Couples suffering infertility and waiting to adopt can wait up to 10 years for a newborn to become available. Even international adoption can take up to 5 years.

Abortion as Birth Control

Abortion advocates claim the reason why we have legal abortion is to protect "the life and health of the mother". Hard facts tell a different story:

  • Less than 1% of abortions are for the so-called "hard cases" of rape and incest. Only 3% of all abortions are committed for the alleged "hard case" of health risk to the mother.

  • 1 in 4 pregnancies in Canada end in abortion.
  • 50% of teen pregnancies end in abortion.
  • 33% of all reported abortions are repeat abortions.

Today therefore, abortion is used primarily as a back-up birth control method.

This inconvenient truth was even conceded by the 1992 US Supreme Court decision, Planned Parenthood vs. Casey, which upheld abortion as a "right". In a rare moment of honesty, the court candidly admitted:

"In some critical respects abortion is of the same character as the decision to use contraception. ... For two decades of economic and social developments, people have organized intimate relationships and made choices that define their views of themselves and their places in society, in reliance on the availability of abortion in the event that contraception should fail."

What these pro-abortion judges admitted, is that more than 100,000 abortions are committed in Canada, plus 1 million in the USA, not to protect "the life and health of the mother" but rather, to protect our contraceptive lifestyle. To ensure that sex without responsibility continues to be available.
